ABSTRACT

A common problem that faces scientists in the early stages of research is nding the best starting place. As individuals, we all of necessity have a very local frame of reference when it comes to knowledge. But this area of greatest familiarity to ourselves is actually the space least likely to divulge a novel discovery, since by its very nature it is ground we have already thoroughly trod. How do we look beyond the well known to the greener pastures of unfamiliarity?
