ABSTRACT

Reinforced Concrete (RC) pile foundations may generally be rendered ineffective in performing their design function of transferring loads from a superstructure to bedrock, due to inconsistency in the pile material or discontinuity in the piles physical dimensions The Integrity of a pile is defined by the consistency of its material and continuity of its physical dimensions. The presence of defects in the piles can severely reduce the structural load carrying capacity of the pile. The integrity of a pile may, therefore, be compromised. These defects occur during the construction process and life cycle of the pile.
