In-situ concrete strength assessment based on Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), rebound, cores and the SonReb method

This paper gives a brief outline of the key aspects of strength assessment. CIA Z11, the Australian guide to assessment of insitu concrete strength, was based on CSTR 11. CSTR 11 has been replaced by BS EN 13791 and its commentary BS 6089. The Concrete Society issued Advice Note 43 in 2013 which summarises some of the approaches in the new European standards. In this paper some of the differences between European Standards and the methods used in Australia based on CSTR 11 are given.
