ABSTRACT

Due to the increasing cost of raw materials and the continuous reduction of natural resources, the use of industrial by products could be a potential alternative in the construction industry. In concrete production, the continued and expanding extraction of natural aggregate causes serious environmental problems which lead to irremediable deterioration of rural areas. Quarrying of aggregates alters land topography and causes potential environmental problems such as erosion. Aggregates occupy approximately 70% of the volume of concrete and the properties of the concrete produced are dependent on the characteristics of the aggregates used.
