ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a spike-based signal coding scheme for analog computation, suitable for diverse applications, including programmable analog arrays and neuromorphic systems. This coding scheme provides a reliablemethod for both communication and computation of signals using an asynchronous digital common access channel. The chapter presents a specific scheme — named the Asynchronous Spike Event Coding Scheme (ASEC)—and discusses some signal processing functions inherent to it. It describes a specific scheme — named the ASEC—and discuss some signal processing functions inherent to it. The asynchronous spike event coding communication method is suitable to perform a series of generic computations. The asynchronous spike event coding scheme allows a set of arithmetic operations to be performed. The chapter provides an ASEC that is not only suitable for flexible analog signal routing but also presents the ability to perform a set of signal processing functions with no dedicated hardware needed.
