ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a predictive event-based control algorithm focused on practical issues. It presents a new solution to the problem, where a straightforward algorithm to include event- based features in an model predictive control controller is provided both for sensor and actuator deadbands. The chapter explores a straightforward algorithm to implement a generalized predictive controller with event-based capabilities. It deals with a simulation study, where the event-based control schemes were evaluated for the greenhouse temperature control problem. The generalized predictive control scheme is used as a predictive controller, and sensor and actuator deadbands are included in the design procedure to provide event-based capabilities. Compensation techniques for actuator issues were explored in previous works about predictive control. The chapter provides a simulation study for an analyzed event-based generalized predictive control algorithm, applied to the greenhouse temperature control problem. It also describes in detail the fundamental issues of signal sampling for the proposed strategy.
