ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the history of laser scanning technology as well as the basic related operational aspects. The fundamentals of laser ranging and scanning are summarized and a discussion of applications in infrastructure facilities is presented. Later, the basic data processing strategies towards the creation of CAD and FEM models are presented. The chapter concludes with a review of applications of laser scanning in different fields of civil engineering and construction.
