ABSTRACT

Lack of adequate oak regeneration in the face of increasing competition from other tree species has been recognized as a significant problem for many oak-dominated forests for several decades and has been implicated in the slow loss of oaks from our forests. This recognition has led to a considerable amount of research devoted to understanding where and why this is occurring. Although research has yielded results to better understand how to deal with oak regeneration problems, it is still a challenge in many forest types to regenerate oak to desired levels.
