ABSTRACT

Increasing world population, demand for agricultural expansion and industrial development calls for methods for dynamic monitoring and sustainable management of water resources (Alderman et al. 2012, Li et al. 2012). Timely monitoring hydraulic characteristics of water bodies like surface area, water level/table and volume/storage is important for flood prediction, evaluation of water resources, decision making, climate models, agriculture suitability, river dynamics, wetland inventory, watershed analysis, surface water survey and management, flood mapping, and environment monitoring.
