ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: With the rapid development of national economic construction and infrastructure construction, the construction of water conservancy project ushered in the peak, and the engineering geological problems became more and more complicated. In order to solve one of the three major engineering geological problems in building concrete faced rockfill dam, settlement deformation aging characteristics of the concrete face rockfill dam built on deep overburden layer were systematically studied. The results show that: settlement deformation of dam foundation and dam body was closely related to the geological conditions, filling height of dam foundation, and time. When filling height reached 20%, 50%, 75%, 100% of the overall height of the dam, the settlement was respectively around 35%, 65%, 85%, and 90% of the maximum settlement; settlement deformation of dam foundation and dam body increased with the increasing height of the rockfill dam. When the overburden layer was thicker, the settlement deformation was delayed, but the settlement rate dropped significantly. The largest dam settlement accounts for about 0.72% of the dam height, in accordance with the general settlement deformation law of earth-rock dams; the improved horizontal fixed inclinometer observation system is proved effective on monitoring the wide dam foundation settlement, which can well reflect the engineering construction.
