Bearing capacity calculation of U-shaped steel damper via assumed stress-strain curve

ABSTRACT: Bearing capacity is one of the important properties of U-shaped steel dampers. A new method to calculate the bearing capacity is proposed by assumed stress-strain curves. This method has higher efficiency, because bearing capacity of U-shaped steel dampers with different radii can be calculated after one steel plate bending test. To verify the accuracy of the method, four steel plate bending tests and four U-shaped steel damper tests were completed. The calculated results obtained from the method relatively fit the tests.
