ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: SPH (Smooth Particle Hydrodynamic) method is a relative new numerical solution of computational fluid dynamics. One of the usages of SPH method is to develop numerical wave flumes. However, as mentioned by many researchers, the SPH wave flume has some issues, e.g., on the unphysical wave energy dissipation and the rate of wave maker stroke to the wave height. To get an understanding on the characteristic of a SPH wave flume, a 2-D SPH numerical wave tank is set up. Scenarios with different parameters were simulated, and by analysis the results of the effects of the smooth coefficient, particle size and water depth to the wave energy dissipation, and the rate of wave maker stroke to the wave height were studied and discussed.
