ABSTRACT

Various approaches for the preparation of PLA have been reported in recent years, including traditional chemical methods, enzymatic routes and biological methods (Kawaguchi et al. 2014). Chemical processes for chiral isomers production result in the racemic mixture of both stereospecific forms. On the other hand, biocatalytic asymmetric synthesis has highly attracted attentions from industry and academia recently because of its high conversion rate and environment-friendly nature, especially outstanding stereo selectivity (Mu et al. 2012). Furthermore, difficult processes for separation and purification of enzyme can be avoided by utilizing microbial whole cells as a biocatalyst. Therefore, microbial whole-cell asymmetric biocatalysis has become the most promising and first choice method in the asymmetric synthesis.
