ABSTRACT
Soundscape exists through human perception of the acoustic environment; this is the first and most important issue when soundscape is considered. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) provides with the ISO/FDIS 12913-1 2014 a clear definition to understand this innovation in acoustics. Soundscape is an “acoustic environment as perceived or experienced and/or understood by a person or people, in context.” Therefore, soundscape research represents a paradigm shift in the field of sound evaluation. First, always, it improves human perception, and second, it expands on classical physical measurements and makes reference to the use of different investigative measurement methods. This multifaceted approach is basic to improving the validity of the research outcome on any subject or phenomenon, and it avoids systematic errors that can occur when relying on only one approach.
