ABSTRACT
Since the Nos. 1-5 caverns were out of water for the tourism development for more than 20 years, a variety of weathering problems have appeared on surrounding rock of the cavern. For example, many cracks with different length and width have appeared in some parts of fishtail-shaped rock pillars used to support the cavities, thin walls, and the cavern roofs. What’s worse, the cracks continue to expand, which has seriously affected the long-term protection and tourism development of Longyou Grottoes. In order to solve the above problems, the management departments of Longyou Grottoes have adopted various methods to strengthen the caverns for 11 years.
