ABSTRACT

Since cultural Heritages belong to non-renewable resources, their safety and permanent preservation is mainly determined by the rock stability, which is greatly influenced by the rock quality. By fully understanding the engineering geological properties of the Mogao Grottoes, this paper investigated, analyzed and induced the factors that influence the rock mass quality, and carried out a grade assessment of the rock mass quality with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Expert System. The results of this research have made clear the rock quality of the cliff of different sections at the Mogao Grottoes, and provided reliable evidence for the conservation and long-term monitoring and early warning.
