ABSTRACT
Rock pillars could be defined as the in situ rocks between two or more underground openings, which are present in all mining operations (Martin and Maybee, 2000). The function of pillars is to maintain the stability of underground engineering temporarily or permanently. In order for a pillar to perform its desirable role, a primary factor, the stress distribution in rock pillars must be considered.
