ABSTRACT
Longyou Grottoes are located in the central part of Jinqu Basin and on the north bank of Qu River. The landform belongs to low hills and the geological structure is simple, with no large faults passing through. The study area formation is singular, which is late cretaceous argillaceous siltstone (low water content and low density sandstone) showing the color of brick red. Longyou Grottoes cavern groups are located in the west of the Zhejiang Province, which are giant ancient underground buildings that were excavated by the ancient Chinese craftsmen long ago. Since initially opened to the public in 1992, it has been achieving more and more affirmation on its cultural
late Cretaceous argillaceous siltstone (belongs to sandstone of low water content and low density) with brick-red color. The strata inclination is gentle with the occurrence of N40°∼60°W, NE∠12°∼24°, and there develops a mudstone interlayer. According to the Gu Dezhen’s rock structure classification standard, the surrounding rock mass belongs to massive and complete structure.
