ABSTRACT

In 2007, Sam Alasia, a Solomon Islands national, published an article where he recounted a story of when he was a young boy on Malaita Island in the early 1960s that whenever a rainbow appeared in the sky, he was always reminded by the elderly not to point his fingers at it (Alasia 2007). Alasia was told that his fingers would get burnt or cooked. This created a tradition of fear, and no one dared point at rainbows whenever they appeared. However, according to Alasia (2007), we are reminded in the Bible that the rainbow is God’s promise to us that he will not destroy the earth again. This chapter asks whether the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are that rainbow across the mountains and whether they are capable of ensuring that they will not be party to another ethnic conflict in the Solomon Islands.
