ABSTRACT

South Africa is a dry country with a rainfall below world average, which is distributed unequally throughout the country. This rainfall is also highly irregular in occurrence, and the demand for water has created pressure for the optimal use of all water. Therefore, many farmers invest in drip irrigation as an improved or most efficient irrigation method for water conservation. However, there is proof from literature and from this research that this system can also be inefficient as a result of water quality, mismanagement, clogging, and maintenance problems.
