ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In this paper, the long-rod projectile penetrations into composite target vertically were simulated based on EPIC-2D. Combining the Johnson-Cook constitutive model, Lemaitre yield criterion and micro crack damage equations to describe the vandalism of ceramic material in the condition of high speed impact. The composite target was composed of cover plate, A95 ceramic and authenticate target. The relationship between penetration depth and impact velocity of projectile was achieved, simulation results were agreed with experimental data very well. The results showed that the A95 ceramic was better than steel A3 on thickness efficiency only when the impact velocity of projectile was above critical value. However, A95 ceramic could reduce armor mass greatly. The conclusions provide important reference value to the further study of ceramic target protection and long-rod penetration into target.
