ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: With a protected material, a standard structure consisting of alumina ceramic cylinders, Ti-6Al-4V and Ultrahigh Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) is put forward and designed. The areal density of the standard structure panel was 72 kg/m2 and penetration of 12.7 mm Armor Piercing Incendiary (API) projectiles was investigated at the vertical velocity of m/s. In this research the penetration process and the bulletproof mechanism of different layer materials and projectile-armor interaction were investigated. Ballistic impact testing of the armor systems revealed that the standard structure was able to protect different protected materials in the fields of aircrafts, helicopters and tanks.
