ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The TiC-Ni(Mo) cermet composite coating was prepared on 7 A52 aluminum alloy by the Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS). The microstructure and properties of coating were investigated by means of SEM, EDS, XRD, micro-hardness test and bonding strength test. The results showed that: the coating consisted of TiC ceramic phase and Ni, Mo, Al metal phase. Each phase of coating combined very well. The surface of coating is the high strength metallurgical bonding. The micro-hardness of the coating is about 8 to 10 times of the substrate. The result of bonding strength test further proved the binding strength between the coating and the substrate was satisfactory. The experimental results showed that adding the metallic Mo and Ni, which has a good dissolvability in Al, to transition area of samples, and those alloying element improved the bonding strength of coating and substrate.
