ABSTRACT

616 617This chapter provides a brief summary of all the 24 chapters appearing in this book of the Remote Sensing Handbook. This book has focus on remote sensing (RS) of water resources, disasters, and urban areas. The chapters in the Volume cover remote sensing of: (1) hydrology and water resources; (2) water use and water productivity (WP); (3) floods; (4) wetlands; (5) snow and ice; (6) nightlights; (7) geomorphology; (8) droughts and drylands; (9) disasters; (10) volcanoes; (11) fire; and (12) urban areas. Under each of these broad categories, one or more chapters provide a comprehensive coverage of the topic. For example, there are five chapters under droughts and drylands. The summaries provide a window view of what exists in each chapters as well as interlinkages to various chapters. You can read this summary chapter in three ways: (1) before reading the chapters to get an overview, (2) after reading all the chapters to recap and refresh major highlights, and (3) do both (1) and (2) in order to capture the totality of all chapters. The chapter summaries also help the reader to establish interlinkages that exist between chapters, in a nutshell.
