ABSTRACT

Flood is defined as an overflowing by water of the normal confines of a stream or other water body or accumulation of water by drainage over areas that are not normally submerged (WMO, 2011). It occurs when the flow capacity of the riverbed is insufficient and the water overflows occupying adjacent areas. The frequency and magnitude of floods vary in space and time, depending on the river basin characteristics (e.g., size, land coverage, and topography) and climate conditions.
