ABSTRACT

Porous silicon is a promising material for application in various areas of modern technology. Successful use of porous silicon in devices of nano-and optoelectronics, sensorics, MEMS, and so on is not possible without reliable information about its properties. Chapter 1 presented methods for investigation of main characteristics of porous matrix, such as porosity, specific surface, pores size distribution, and chemical composition. In this chapter, we discuss methods for study of optical, luminescence, electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of porous silicon. Exactly these parameters determine the applicability of porous silicon for the development of devices of various purposes and their performances. In this review, we will try to point out the specifics of application of classical methods for porous silicon study and will not discuss these methods in detail. Readers can get this information from classic books and reviews.
