ABSTRACT

Flood is de¤ned as an over¨owing by water of the normal con-¤nes of a stream or other water body or accumulation of water by drainage over areas that are not normally submerged (WMO, 2011). It occurs when the ¨ow capacity of the riverbed is insuf-¤cient and the water over¨ows occupying adjacent areas. Ÿe frequency and magnitude of ¨oods vary in space and time, depending on the river basin characteristics (e.g., size, land coverage, and topography) and climate conditions.
