ABSTRACT
Translation is a job that involves the writer, the translator, and the reader. In translation, the translator is to negotiate with the writer and the reader on an equal footing. However, for a long period of time, the translation study and practice have been limited to the arguments about the nature of translation, the standards, and skills of translation or to the comparison between the original text and the target text.Thus, there is no enough study of the translator’s subjectivity in translation. Recently, many scholars have published a series of articles to further study this concern. In the latter half of the twentieth century, with the continual development of translation study and practice, great changes have taken place in the paradigm of translation study. The focus has transformed from the static text to the dynamic course, from partial disordered analysis to integral comprehensive theory. In the course of transformation, people lay emphasis on the translator. After all, translation is a cross-cultural communicative activity which can be implemented by the translator’s subjectivity during the whole period. The translator is the subject in the translating process [1]. Therefore, the research on the translator’s subjectivity is important and also indispensable in the translation study and practice. It is a case study of two different translated texts of the novel Pride and Prejudice in order to discuss the influence of a translator’s subjectivity on the texts.
