The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (1994) views global warming as a threat to environment and to societies in the future, and therefore it states that the causes must be dealt with now (Kemp, 1998). Clark (1998) stated that global warming is one of the most serious environmental issues of our time. Climate change is a threat to humans’ heritage. In 2005 The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO’s) World Heritage Committee placed it on record that climate change was having an adverse impact on cultural values of a considerable number of heritage sites. C ognisance was also taken of the continuance of these negative effects for generations to come (Heath, 2008).
