ABSTRACT

The main methods in drinking water production used for removal of arsenic (As) are (Ann., 2000; Hering et al., 1997; Kartinen and Martin, 1995; Kołtuniewicz and Drioli, 2008; Vrijenhoek and Waypa, 2000):

• Precipitation processes, including coagulation/filtration, coagulation with microfiltration, advanced coagulation, lime softening and advanced lime softening;

• Adsorption processes, especially on an activated alumina; • Ion-exchange processes, mainly on anionites; • Membrane filtration, including reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF), ultra-and

microfiltration, most common combined in integrated/hybrid systems; • Electrodialysis (ED), electrodialysis reversal (EDR) and Donnan dialysis.
