ABSTRACT

The penicillin class of drugs and doxycycline eectively treat this condition.

Definition/overview Brucella canis in dogs causes ophthalmic signs of recurrent corneal edema, anterior uveitis, chorioretinitis, optic neuritis, endophthalmitis, and secondary glaucoma. The organism can be cultured from aqueous and vitreous, and titers detected in serum and aqueous humor. It is a zoonotic disease diagnosed by bacteriologic culturing. Systemic therapy with oral tetracycline and intramuscular streptomycin is recommended, although relapses can occur.
