ABSTRACT

Polyphenols are one of the commonest and most important groups of substances present in a great variety and number of plants, showing a wide range of structures and serving important functions in plants. The estimated number of plant polyphenols could include 8000 different structures [1] and their roles in plants involve protection against photosynthetic stress, free radical scavenging, and plant protection against herbivores. Besides these protective actions, they are also responsible for insect attraction due to their coloration and for or cell-to-cell signaling processes [2].
