ABSTRACT
The major tick species known to be of importance in transmitting disease to dogs and cats are listed in Table 1.1. Although many ixodid ticks are not host-specific, they are not indiscriminate in the hosts they parasitize. A few show an extremely wide host range, but most occur on a limited range of hosts, which they parasitize with varying intensities.
