ABSTRACT

The upper aerodigestive tract shares a common passage in the oropharynx. The larynx separates the airway from the digestive tract at the level of hypopharynx. It is divided into supraglottis, glottis and subglottis anatomically. The larynx serves the functions of providing a rigid framework for transmission of air on breathing, producing voice for communication and protecting the trachea and lung by preventing aspiration.
