ABSTRACT

The most common malignant tumour of the larynx is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), with an incidence of 6.2 per 100 000 males and 1.3 per 100 000 females in the United Kingdom. It is rare in patients under the age of 40. The main co-aetiological factors are tobacco smoking and drinking alcohol, with a strong association with the lower socio-economic groups.
