ABSTRACT

Groundnut is one of the major oilseed crops in the world. It is a valuable cash crop cultivated by millions of small farmers, because of its economic and nutritional value. Under commercial cultivation, it is grown mainly as a sole crop with high levels of inputs whereas under subsistence conditions both sole crop and mixed or intercropping can be seen. The low productivity in groundnut is attributed to many production constraints. Among these, biotic factors particularly diseases play a major role in limiting the yield of groundnut. Among these, biotic factors particularly diseases play a major role in limiting the yield of groundnut. The crop is known to be attacked by a number of fungal and bacterial diseases. Diseases like leaf spot, rust, collar rot, stem rot, bud necrosis, rosette, etc., are very important.
