ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we report the main results obtained in our research

group during the past five years about the effect of microwaves on

the synthesis of cationic clays (saponites and hectorites) and anionic

clays (hydrotalcites and hydrocalumites) and on the modification of

the surface and acidic properties of several pentasil-type zeolites

(beta, mordenite, ZSM-5) by cation exchange, dealumination, and

sulfonic acid functionalization. Microwaves reduced the synthesis

time and modified the surface and acid-base properties of these

materials.
