ABSTRACT

Cell membrane lipids are involved in a variety of cellular activities.

However, the role of membrane lipids in drug discovery and

drug delivery has not been fully explored. In this chapter, we

review biophysical interactions of drugs and nanoparticles with

membrane lipids and discuss how these interactions influence

drug delivery. Biophysical interaction studies can improve our

understanding of the role of membrane lipids in the transport of

drugs/nanocarriers across biological barriers and can provide a

simple yet effective mechanistic and rational approach for designing

efficient drugs/nanocarrier systems for targeting.
