ABSTRACT

The field of architectural structures has still stuck to the conventional structural calculation method of calculating the stresses in members by constructing a 3D model (Lee 2010), and its application has been limited to the frame model due to a variety of reasons, such as structural characteristics, functional limitations of BIM tools and low productivity. In addition, the application of BIM has also been made only within the limited range of image support and clash detection through the conversion of 2D drawings into 3D ones (Eom et al. 2014). On the contrary, it is now being generalized in the plant structures that check for clashes with pipes or other equipment is conducted, or shop drawing for production is created through a 3D model (Lee 2010). In this regard, this study sought to develop a 3D rebar placing automatize system utilizing functions provided by BIM software for the continuous beam of RC structures that prioritizes the development among simple repetitive and labor intensive tasks in the field of architectural structures. Through the system, it attempts to improve the functionality and productivity of BIM tools in the field of architectural structures, and thus to broaden the range of BIM applications.
