Displays show information on demand by manipulating visible light via changing colors of one material or moving different colored materials at the scale of pixels. Depending on the interaction between light and materials, the light can be manifested by different materials via refl ection, transmission or emission mechanism. The electrophoretic display (EPD), the liquid crystal display (LCD) and the organic light emission display (OLED) is the representative of refl ective, transmissive and emissive displays, respectively. The focus of this chapter is the refl ective display materials which can refl ect light with wavelength in the range of about 400-700 nm by electrical actuation, showing different colors and grayscales in the display devices.
