ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some of the basic results on the theory of integral equations and mention some of its applications. The literature of this subject is very large. Proofs are not given due to space restriction. The results are taken from the works mentioned in the references. The chapter describes the applications to solving boundary value problems by integral equations involving potentials of single and double layers, applications of integral equations in the elasticity theory, applications to acoustics electrodynamics. It deals with the possibility to express potentials of the single layer by potentials of the double layer and vice versa. The chapter explores the wave scattering by small bodies of an arbitrary shape.
