ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses topics and re-opened questions about mutual relations between chaotic systems and evolutionary algorithms (EA). Deterministic chaos and EAs seem to be two different areas of research that are not joined together, but this is not in fact true. In the beginning, a brief overview of EA is introduced that, followed by a discussion on mutual relations between chaos and evolution. After that, how chaos can be used to randomize evolutionary dynamic and the fact that chaos can be observed inside EAs is explained. EAs as discrete systems with complex dynamics are discussed. Synchronization is a dynamical process during which one system is synchronized, slaved remotely by another synchronizing, master system so that the synchronized system is in a certain manner following the behavior of the master system. Identification of various dynamical systems is vitally important in the case of practical applications as well as in theory.
