ABSTRACT

The Rock Engineering Systems (RES) approach was developed by the author to provide a method of identifying the key factors and their relative importance in a rock engineering project in order to assist in design and in risk reduction. The method enables structured elicitation of the information known by the various parties involved, together with the method for establishing the interaction and dominance of the key factors. The approach is explained and case examples of RES use in the 1992–2015 literature are highlighted.
