ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights what is needed to satisfy best practice with respect to the design of an open pit slope. It is not intended for it to be an instruction manual for geotechnical engineering in open pit mines, but a concise, up-to-date road map that outlines the fundamentals of the slope design process, including how to gather reliable data, how to formulate the design, how to implement the design, how to assess the reliability of the outcome, and how to manage risk.
