ABSTRACT

The local magnitudes m L of strong rockbursts from 4 to 5, with respective depths of their focuses from 1 to 3 km may lead to substantially strong ground motion, comparable to the surface effects of nuclear underground explosions and respective damages in buildings and civil infrastructure. In this chapter characteristic features of the ground motion records acquired during mine tremors are analyzed in detail. Based on this data a proposal for design response spectra and an adaptation of Eurocode 8 to mitigate the rockburst surface ground motion effects on structures is presented.
