ABSTRACT

A new strategy for field measurement and safety management in rock engineering is proposed. In this method, specially designed sensors capable of 1) measuring arbitrary quantities and 2) visualizing them on-site, are used so that state of deformation, strain, inclination, etc., is grasped and shown visually to people nearby on a real-time basis. This “On-Site Visualization” strategy offers a new platform whereby visually shared information about structures in question would enable advanced safety management in rock engineering projects.
