ABSTRACT

Until recently the genus Davidsonia was listed in Davidsoniaceae, but since its revision in 2000, the genus is considered to be part of the Cunoniaceae family. Small slender rainforest tree, which grows up to 18 m high; bark is brown to dark grey that becomes flaky. Tree form is generally a single trunk with a few branches. Wild harvested Davidson's plum has provided the basis for the development of a small niche industry in Australia. Over the past 15 years, the supply of Davidson's plum has made an almost complete transition from wild harvest to plantations. Canopy structure is an important modifying factor affecting fruit yields, where multi-stemmed trees have higher yields than single stemmed trees. Trees with multiple stems have a greater number of sites where inflorescences can be formed, which has an overall positive effect on fruit numbers and thus yield.
