ABSTRACT

Civil construction in Brazil has been considered as an industry with relatively low level of technology, having its major importance related to the high number of workers it has. Most of the constructions have cast on site reinforced concrete structures, requiring intensive labour of low qualification. However, in the last decades, the growing income of the workers is changing this situation, resulting in an increasing industrialization of the construction process. In this way, precast concrete systems and steel concrete composite systems are becoming viable alternatives. In this work, a hybrid system composed of CFT (concrete filled steel tubes) columns and precast concrete beams is proposed, and a solution for the beam-to-column connection is presented. This connection is composed by a steel corbel connected to the column through the steel tube aiming to produce a moment resistant connection. Experimental tests on the proposed connection were performed, showing a great potential of the solution.
