ABSTRACT

This paper explores the use of an innovative timber and fabric roof for the new Warner Stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, UK. The roof uses a multilayer fabric of PTFE and a thermal blanket inner layer that is impregnated with aerogel to provide thermal insulation. The material is known as Tensotherm TM and was developed by Birdair in 2006 in the USA. The thermal properties of Tensotherm TM allow the fabric roof to enclose a restaurant for use all year round and still to meet Building Regulation requirements for thermal insulation. This is the first use of Tensotherm TM in the UK.
