ABSTRACT

Nowadays, building conversion and adaptation has become a very popular choice among engineers in the idea that remodelling and refurbishing already existing buildings has a lower impact on the environment than building new ones. Moreover, over-roofing and over-cladding systems offer a new life to a deficient or outdated building, with minimum disruption to building occupants and low costs. In this context, lightweight steel solutions have proven to be the best option for these additions. The study is mainly focused on the column-base connection of these over-roofing solutions to the existent concrete buildings using numerical analyses. The over-roofing is tied to the existent building by chemical anchors in the scope of minimum concrete damage and less discomfort to building owners.
